SPRINGFIELD — New and renewed military and commercial contracts are giving a company with a local presence the opportunity to expand and bringing new jobs to the area.
Qbase Inc., a Beavercreek-based data analysis and management company, signed five contracts with various military organizations totaling more than $6 million, said CEO Bill Pardue in a July 21 release.
Most of the approximately 20 jobs will come to the Qbase office at Nextedge Applied Research and Technology Park, east of Springfield on U.S. 40, according to Qbase President Tom Shoup.
The company is seeking individuals with bachelor’s degrees through Ph.D.s in areas including image processing, software development, systems architecture and data analytics.
“We’re looking to hire a combination of 10 to 15 interns and full-time employees. ... If we can get qualified students and recent graduates working at good jobs, we can keep them in the area,” Shoup said.
When the company opened its Springfield office in February 2007, Pardue committed to at least 100 local jobs in the first three years.
Qbase currently employs 102 full-time workers, 15 part-timers and five independent contractors. There are 62 in Springfield, 50 in Beavercreek and 10 outside Ohio.
“The first six months of this year were tough with the economy, and for the last couple of months we’ve had to scrap, but now that the contracts have been signed, we’re back in growth mode. ... We’re on target to meet our employment goal,” Shoup said.
The military contracts include $2.1 million with the Army Topographic Engineering Center, three contracts totaling $3.3 million with the Air Force Research Laboratory directorates for sensors and human effectiveness, and $1 million with the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer.
Three contracts will use technology to organize and analyze large data sets. The other two contracts will utilize a high throughput computing platform for processing of geo-spatial and medical images.
To complete the new contract work, Qbase will partner with Central State University, the University of Dayton and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Kettering Health Network Innovation Center and Woolpert.
Qbase has also been awarded more than $1.5 million in new and renewal commercial contracts including data analysis to managed IT services such as networking, remote systems management and secure backup.
